Cameron Highlands

Tanah Rata — tea plantations and the muddiest hike of the trip

Food & Drink

  • Kumar Restaurant – so many good, authentic Indian spots in town, and I ate here both days I was around

Sights

  • The Cameron Tea Plantation, seen up close by hiking straight through it

Experiences

  • Hiking trail 10 to trail 6 — one of the hardest hikes I've ever done, extremely muddy and steep from washed-out ground, but one of the coolest for being genuinely uncrowded, ending right through the tea plantation. Wear proper boots

Getting Around

  • This is hiking country — come with real shoes, not sandals

Travel Tips

  • Skip the “strawberry plantations” if gift-shop vibes aren't your thing — less plantation, more souvenir stand
  • Muddy trail conditions mean proper footwear isn't optional here

Overall Review

A cool mountain escape after the heat of the lowlands, built around tea plantations and genuinely tough hiking. The hike from trail 10 to trail 6 was brutal in the mud but one of the most memorable of the whole trip, especially finishing through the Cameron Tea Plantation itself. Bring good boots and good Indian food recommendations — Kumar Restaurant covered me for both days I was in town.
